Josh McCown Provides Much-Needed Optimism for Cleveland Browns in Preseason Win

It had been a deflating week for the Cleveland Browns, at least when it came to the quarterback position.

Coming into the season, it already looked pretty bleak considering the depth chart was Josh McCown – fresh off a miserable season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – and Johnny Manziel – fresh off an equally awful year, plus rehab. Believe it or not, this was not inspiring much hope within the fan base.

Things seemed to look a little better through the preseason, with McCown looking sharp in the team’s opener against the Washington Redskins. Additionally, Manziel was finally starting to show improvement with a promising performance against the Buffalo Bills the following week.

However, any good vibes were erased this week when Manziel, who had been dealing with elbow pain, was shut down for the rest of the preseason. The team now had to officially pin all of its hopes on McCown, who was coming off a rough showing against the Bills. Once again, it was tough to get too excited from a fan’s perspective.

While last night might not have erased all doubt, it certainly had to make the team and supporters alike feel a little more comfortable with their quarterback situation.
