The Cleveland Indians had two chances yesterday to try and make something of their weekend series with the Baltimore Orioles. After spoiling a solid start from Corey Kluber on Friday night (because of course they did), the team had a double-header yesterday thanks to Saturday’s game being rained out.
Not only did the Tribe fail to win either of the two games on Sunday, they failed to score a single run. They were blanked 4-0 in the afternoon matchup, and proceeded to get spanked to the tune of 8-0 in the nightcap.
For a team many thought was primed to contend in the AL this year, there have been way too many times they’ve instead forced fans to say “this has to be rock bottom.” At 33-41, the club Sports Illustrated tabbed as their pick to win the World Series is instead toiling in the cellar with one of the worst records in the league.
After Sunday’s double-dose of embarrassment, outfielder Brandon Moss provided one of the more candid quotes of the day.
“If you were on the outside looking in, it would look like we have no heart,” said Moss. “I can’t blame them.”
While you could certainly say Moss isn’t directly saying the Indians are playing without heart, he’s not denying it or defending the team from such a claim either. Honestly, it doesn’t matter what his intentions were with the aforementioned statement. At the end of the day, it doesn’t change the fact he couldn’t be more accurate in evaluating this club right now.
