While the Cleveland Cavaliers are undoubtedly excited to be just eight wins away from an NBA Championship, you can rest assured they’re currently a little more overjoyed about the days off before the Eastern Conference Finals begin.
The Cavs have more than a few members of the roster who badly needed some time to heal up various bumps and bruises. Thanks to their knocking out the Chicago Bulls in six games, they received just that. With five days to prep for their showdown with the Atlanta Hawks, key players like LeBron James and Iman Shumpert can rest up and be as close to fully healthy as possible.
One person who needs all the recovery time he can get is star point guard Kyrie Irving. Dealing with a sore right foot and tendonitis in his left knee, Irving is clearly hurting pretty badly. Regardless, he was able to gut it out as much as possible in the series with Chicago, and now hopes to be healed enough to give his team everything he can in the upcoming series.
And, if Cleveland does indeed want to keep their postseason dreams alive, they’re going to need all they can get from Irving. There are many key factors which will play a part in whether or not the Cavs advance to the final round, but none bigger than the health of Irving.
